UNIFAR -Innovating Beyond the Expectations of Today
At UNIFAR'S Research and Development Department, improving and prolonging the quality of life for the future is the goal. Within this framework, the Company has made extensive investments to acquire state-of-the-art technology that is geared toward the development of new products.
UNIFAR conscientiously targets present requirements while it plans for future challenges. To best meet these challenges, UNIFAR constantly seeks information on the changing needs of its clients. Teams of highly qualified chemists, chemical engineers and technicians operate the Company's production facilities. New staff is recruited from among top-ranking graduates at Turkey's major academic institutions.
The multi-faceted Research and Development Department at UNIFAR focuses on product and process development as well as the improvement of a wide variety of new and existing products and techniques. At present, a specially selected R&D team is innovating an original process. The prospect of their work is very promising!
In-house procedures operate within a number of process-specific departments. These include modern chemical synthesis, biotechnology, and waste treatment laboratories. Expert teams of Research and Development personnel devise complete synthesis routes for target molecules along with adaptation and optimization of existing processes. Results obtained in these specialized laboratories are then rapidly converted into large-scale production in UNIFAR'S production facilities.
Expertise acquired through years of chemical production allows UNIFAR to synthesize many classes of active ingredients such as penicillin, as well as macrocyclic antibiotics.
One area of specialization is the biotransformation of chemical substances leading to pharmaceutically active materials. Of particular importance is UNIFAR'S patented technology for the enzymatic conversion of 6-APA to ampicillin.
A primary goal in production is to avoid and minimize waste. This philosophy is thoroughly integrated - from beginning to end - in the UNIFAR Synthesis Program - from the initial planning through process development and in facility design. Throughout the entire manufacturing process, scrap materials are collected, pre-sorted and re-cycled as part of the commitment to an unharmed environment. Wastewater is purified in the plant's specifically designed biological treatment facility. Liquid and solid wastes and residues are combusted in an incinerator owned and operated by the municipality.
